Electric car maker Tesla will have to cut around 10 per cent of its workforce. The head of the company, Elon Musk, made the announcement in an e-mail to staff, excerpts of which were published by Reuters on Friday.

The email sent out on Thursday states that the company needs to "cut about 10% of employees" and also "suspend hiring around the world".

"I have a very bad feeling about the economy," company chief Elon Musk also said. Also, Reuters notes that Tesla has not yet made any comment on the matter.

It is worth noting that the head of the American electric car maker Tesla said his company could unveil a prototype of the Optimus humanoid robot by September 30.

Musk introduced the idea of the robot in August 2021. According to the project presented then, Optimus will be as tall as a man, will be able to lift about 20 kilograms and help people with everyday tasks. According to the entrepreneur, the smart device will do everything people "wouldn't want" to do, such as go shopping for groceries.

According to Bloomberg, the robot will be equipped with the same artificial intelligence systems as Tesla electric cars.

Tesla is a manufacturer of electric cars and electric energy storage solutions. The company was founded in 2003 by Martin Forest Eberhard, Jeffrey Brian Straubel, Marc Tarpenning, Ian Wright and Elon Reeve Musk.
