The singer was staying at the CasaSur Palermo hotel when the alleged accident occurred. A hotel employee made a frantic call to local authorities, reporting concerns about the star's behavior.

The 911 Call: A Cry for Help

A translated 911 call transcript obtained by the BBC reveals a concerning situation. The hotel’s chief receptionist alerted emergency services, stating that a guest had consumed excessive drugs and alcohol.

"We have a guest who is high on drugs and trashing the room," the receptionist said. The call disconnected before being redialed, where the employee expressed fear for the guest’s safety, particularly because the room had a balcony.

Footage later surfaced showing a smashed television and substances on a table in the room. Payne, who had openly discussed his sobriety earlier in 2023, had completed 100 days of rehab but it remains unclear if he had relapsed before his passing.

The Fatal Fall and Emergency Response

Payne fell from the third-floor balcony just moments before paramedics arrived. Buenos Aires emergency services chief, Alberto Crescenti, confirmed that the injuries were too severe for any life-saving intervention. “His injuries were incompatible with life,” Crescenti stated, emphasizing the severity of Payne's cranial trauma and other injuries. "There was no resuscitation possible; he had already passed away."
