Prison Attack on Rapper
Rapper Tory Lanez is reportedly recovering after being stabbed multiple times during a violent assault inside a California prison on Monday morning.
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is said to have suffered 14 stab wounds in total — seven to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to his face, according to a post on his official social media account. The same post revealed that both of his lungs had collapsed, and he was temporarily placed on a breathing machine.
“Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through.”
The 31-year-old Canadian artist is currently serving a 10-year sentence at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi after being convicted of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. The incident, which took place outside a party hosted by Kylie Jenner, resulted in serious backlash and legal battles.
The stabbing occurred inside a housing unit at approximately 7:20 a.m., confirmed Pedro Calderon Michel, spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Lanez was treated immediately by prison staff before being transferred to a hospital for emergency care.
Authorities from the prison’s internal investigation team, alongside the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, are currently investigating the attack.
Lanez was found guilty of three felonies in late 2022 related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete. During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez fired at her feet while shouting for her to dance as she tried to leave their vehicle.
Following his 2023 sentencing, Lanez remains eligible for parole in 2029. Meanwhile, Megan was granted an extended order of protection through 2030, after alleging Lanez was attempting to harass her from behind bars via third parties.
Despite the conviction, Lanez has continued to proclaim his innocence, publicly rejecting any suggestion of guilt and expressing frustration over the judicial process.
