A Friend Remembered Forever
Queen icon Sir Brian May has moved fans with an emotional tribute to his late friend and longtime driver Phil Webb, who passed away suddenly in 2023. Two years after the heartbreaking loss, the 78-year-old guitarist took to social media to remember the man he called one of the kindest souls he had ever known.
Posting a photo of the two together at his knighthood ceremony at Buckingham Palace, May shared a heartfelt message that read:
“In my thoughts today, the unforgettable Phil Webb seen here with me, proudly looking after me as he always did… We all miss ya Phil, too much. RIP.”
May and Webb shared a bond that went far beyond the usual relationship between a musician and his driver. Webb had worked with the Queen legend for more than 30 years, becoming a trusted friend, protector, and constant presence in May’s life both on and off the road. Known for his compassion and devotion to others, Webb was admired for treating everyone with kindness, regardless of background, and was a passionate supporter of animal welfare.
Fans were quick to respond to May’s emotional post, flooding the comments with messages of love and support. One follower wrote, “He was such a kind man, dearly missed. Beautiful picture of you both.” Another added, “Sending extra love to everyone who knew him.”
May had previously described Webb’s passing as one of the most devastating moments of his life, calling him “the kindest and most decent man” he had ever met. His latest tribute shows that the pain of losing such a cherished friend still runs deep, but it also serves as a moving reminder of the lasting power of friendship, loyalty, and love beyond the spotlight.
