Amanda Bynes Reboots Career
Amanda Bynes is continuing her post-Hollywood reinvention, stepping further into music with the release of her latest single, “GIRLFRIEND,” which arrived April 10.
The former Nickelodeon star, now 40, collaborates with hip-hop artist Fenix Flexin on the track, a blend of melodic rap and EDM influences shaped by a distinctly Los Angeles sonic identity. The release comes via Create Music Group, a label whose broader roster includes mainstream names such as Jason Derulo, Keri Hilson, and Deadmau5 — a lineage that situates Bynes’ latest effort within a commercially viable pop-electronic space.
“Built around a strong hook and confident, flirt-heavy energy, [the song is] designed for repeat listens and wide playlist appeal,” the label said in a statement, noting the track’s balance between accessibility and a contemporary West Coast edge.
Bynes first previewed the collaboration in February, sharing studio footage that hinted at a more assertive musical direction. The release also marks a continuation of her intermittent recording history, following earlier tracks like “Diamonds” (2021) and “Fairfax” (2022), both created with her former partner Paul Michael.
Her shift toward music reflects a broader evolution that began after her departure from acting. Bynes, who rose to prominence on All That and later headlined The Amanda Show, stepped away from the screen following her role in Easy A — a project led by Emma Stone and produced by Will Gluck, both central figures in the film that marked Bynes’ final major on-screen appearance.
Since then, her career has unfolded across multiple creative and digital ventures. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 2019, she explored podcasting with “Amanda Bynes Paul Sieminski: The Podcast” in 2023, showcased original artwork at a 2024 pop-up, and entered the subscription platform OnlyFans in April 2025 with a fan-focused, non-explicit approach.
With “GIRLFRIEND,” Bynes adds another chapter to a career defined less by a single medium and more by ongoing reinvention — this time anchored in the evolving intersection of pop, rap, and electronic music.
