Philip Heath Mendelson is an American politician from Washington, D.C.

He is currently Chairman of the Council of the District of Columbia, elected by the Council on June 13, 2012, following the resignation of Kwame R. Brown. He was elected to serve the remainder of Brown's term in a citywide special election on November 6, 2012, and re-elected to a full term in 2014, 2018, and 2022.

Career

Early Political Involvement

Mendelson began his career in public service as an advocate for neighborhood and civic causes. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he worked actively on community issues, including housing, zoning, and education. Before joining the D.C. Council, he served on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC), gaining experience in grassroots governance and local policymaking.
