Ryan Allen Sutter is an American television personality and former professional football player. He is the winner on the first season of the dating competition reality TV show The Bachelorette, chosen by inaugural star Trista Rehn. Sutter, a Colorado firefighter, and Rehn were married in a televised wedding on ABC in December 2003.
Before his rise to fame, Sutter built a solid athletic career as a defensive back for the University of Colorado Buffaloes football team. His talent and determination led him to the National Football League (NFL), where he had brief stints with teams such as the Carolina Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks before injuries curtailed his professional playing career.
After stepping away from football, Ryan dedicated himself to public service, becoming a firefighter in his home state of Colorado — a role that reflects his commitment to teamwork, discipline, and helping others. Over the years, he has balanced his work as a firefighter with occasional television appearances alongside his wife, including special Bachelor franchise events and family features.
