Rayonier Inc. is a timberland real estate investment trust (REIT). The Company hold assets located in some of the softwood timber growing regions in the United States and New Zealand.
The Company conduct its business through an umbrella partnership real estate investment trust (UPREIT). It operates through six segments: Southern Timber, Pacific Northwest Timber, New Zealand Timber, Timber Funds, Real Estate, and Trading. The Southern Timber, Pacific Northwest Timber, New Zealand Timber and Timber Funds segments include all activities related to the harvesting of timber and other activities.
Its Real Estate segment reflects the United States and New Zealand land or leasehold sales, including higher and better use (HBU) and non-HBU. Its Trading segment reflects log trading activities in New Zealand and Australia conducted by Its New Zealand subsidiary. It owns, leases or manages approximately 2.7 million acres of timberlands.
