Jerry Jones was born in LA on October 13, 1942. When he was just a baby, his family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. At North Little Rock High School, Jones became known as the star running back. He later went on to attend college at the University of Arkansas.

He played football at the university and was part of the National Championship team in 1964.

Jones graduated in 1965 from college and was hired into his father’s company as the executive vice president. He later went on to receive his Masters degree in 1970 in business. He attempted several business ventures, with his most successful being the Jones Oil and Land Lease Company in Arkansas.

Dallas Cowboys Career

In February of 1989, Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys for 140 million dollars from H.R. Bright, also known as Bum Bright. He was and continues to be one of the only owners in the NFL who had some success as a football player.

Shortly after he purchased the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones fired fan favorite coach, Tom Landry. He replaced Landry with his fellow University of Arkansas teammate, Jimmy Johnson. Since Johnson, the team has experienced several head coach changes.

Despite the controversy that surrounds Jones, he has brought success and results to his team. He and the Dallas Cowboys have experienced until now, 3 Super Bowl wins in four seasons. He was also instrumental in the creation of the new Cowboys Stadium.

His vision for the new stadium, which opened in 2009, allows for more than 100,000 fans to visit for each game. The stadium has received several achievements and awards since its creation, including the Sports Facility of the Year, in 2010, by Sports Business Journal.

Since Jones became the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, they have successfully drafted 25 Pro Bowl players that have made a combined appearance of 95 Pro Bowl games.

Where is He Now

Jones continues to be the owner of the Dallas Cowboys. He is a very active and hands on owner, who is seen at most of the games. He is very visible within the community and plays an active role in several charitable causes, most importantly through his support of The Salvation Army.

He is married to his wife, Gene Jones and together they have three children and nine grandchildren.
